Dragon Party!

My smiley silly happy boy has just turned 4!  He is obsessed with super heroes.  Much to my dismay he wants to battle evil and destroy bad guys most of the day.  Typical.  But when I direct his play towards dragons his imagination expands.  He takes his dragons on grand adventures and explorations, at times his is a dragon and sometimes he is a knight with dragon pets for protection.  But my favorite is in the evening when his beloved Petit Ame Dragon becomes his baby to care for.  He sings to him and pets him, makes sure he is comfy and puts him to sleep just right with a little story, hug and kiss.  I love dragons, I love how the fantastical nature of the Dragon can inspire my son to stretch his imagination.  Cleary decided that he would have a Dragon themed party for his 4th birthday.

Party favors for the guests were upcycled dragon tees.  I made 15 tee shirts for $18.00.  Thrifty and Green!   They also doubled as decoration.

The kids all had fun taking a chance at smashing the dragon Piñata open!  I would have made a piñata but... making dolls is more fun.  Plus, would I really have been able to let them destroy it?

It's not a Dragon Party without pin the tail on the Dragon!

Poor guy, his cheek got pinned!

This is Nimbus, Cleary's new best friend.  I was lucky enough to have a doll exchange with Petit Ame.  Aren't her Dragons AMAZING!

Here's the birthday boy!

Pinafore pattern and tutorial

Napling Reversible Pinafore Pattern

I've made a reversible dress!  It's quite perfect for my little Napling girls that would like something fabulous yet comfortable to wear, it even has a little space for their tails to peek through.

The pattern is designed to fit 7-8" dolls.

You will need two pieces of fabric about 10" x 7"
And two set of snaps or two buttons.

First download the pattern by clicking here.

The Pinafore is very easy to make, but if you happen to be new at sewing clothes stick with me and I will walk you through the steps.

First cut the pattern on the fold of fabric.  You will be cutting along the solid line, do not cut on the fold.  When you open the piece it will look like this.  You should have two pieces to make the reversible pinafore.

Place your fabric right sides together.

Sew all the way around the edge, using a 1/4" seam allowance.  Don't forget to leave an opening.  I always mark the space with pins.

Now turn the dress right side out through the space you've left open.

After turning the dress, press it with an iron and topstitch it.

I topstitch close to the edge, about 1/8" in making sure to close the opening that I used to turn.

You can attach the straps to the bib using snaps or buttons.  Another option is sewing the straps directly to the dress bib, the dress should slip on and off with out problem.

This is Payton, she might be an aspiring model.        She loves that her dress is reversible!

p.s.  I have drafted this particular pattern for my dolls but the cross back style of Pinafore is a traditional and common style.  I do not hold any claim to it.   Feel free to use the pattern however you would like!

Naptown Bettys

Naptown Boys is getting a little girly... it happens.  As a child I wanted to wear dresses everyday.  The dresses were a strange contrast to my tough, dirt digging, tree climbing personality.  None of us were made from a mold and Naptown Bettys are certainly one of a kind.  They are funky little girls with big personalities.   But if you call them Betty they will either shy away or kick you in the shin and tell you that's not their name!

color

I am a color lover.  Well... who doesn't love to color?  So I've made up a little coloring sheet for you all from this sketch of my Peacock Napling.  You can download the coloring sheet by clicking here.  Have fun!

This Peacock Napling is Alister.  He also loves color.

Jax the fox is one of my newest designs.  He has toadstool button joints.

Sidney the Mouse... he's a daydreamer, if you couldn't already tell.  The buttons on Sidney are Dandelions.
